Her Majesty Queen Prudence Alexander de'Medici
The Role of the Sovereign
The Sovereign is the Head of State and Government of Alessia. The Sovereign is officially styled as His or Her Majesty. The Sovereign acts as the guardian of the Alessian constitution by ensuring the government remains within the confines of the constitution.
The Sovereign has very little direct roles in government however, The Sovereign has the right to propose legislation or amendments to legislation within Parliament and holds the final say for all legislation. This is done by the Sovereign granting or denying Royal Assent.

The Sovereign also effects government by appointing the Prime Minister, who then runs the government in the Sovereigns name. The Sovereign may issue Royal Decrees (The Equivalent of an Executive Order) to command the operations of the Executive Government, this is done with restrictions and cannot override laws or the constitution.

The Sovereign may also enact Royal Edicts, only with the consent of the Executive Government, to act as a temporary and emergency fix for issues. These may override laws but only remain in effect until the next session of Parliament who must then take action to rectify the situation.

The judicial role of the Sovereign is limited to granting paroles and pardons. The Sovereign may reduce the sentence of convicted criminals and grant pardons to both convicted and accused citizens.
The role of the Sovereign in the Nobility is significant and total. The Sovereign is the sole authority of structuring the Nobility.
The Ceremonial role of the Sovereign is significant. The Sovereign issues directives to appoint ministers, opens parliament, grants commissions to diplomats, as well as many other ceremonial duties.
